The Glarnersteg Foundation in Schwanden, Glarus commissioned Wetrok with a cleaning concept for a new building. A report on holistic cleaning, object-specific challenges, and the balancing act of manual foam cleaning.

Everything from a single source – that’s what Wetrok stands for. At Wetrok, customers purchase machines, equipment, chemicals and consumables for professional cleaning. But what would the highest quality products be without the knowledge of how best to use them? Wetrok offers its customers tailor-made cleaning concepts (exposés). This also gives expert knowledge to non-experts that is tailored to their respective cleaning objective. But how does a exposé come about and what benefits does it offer?

Invest money once = save cost and time every year
To compile all the factors, the first step is to ensure every room of the building on site is inspected and the floor plans are included. Based on floor coverings, room sizes and cleaning intervals, Wetrok determines the time, manpower and costs generated by cleaning. The degree of transfer, the distances to the cleaning base and the lift sizes are just a few of the factors that essentially influence the calculations. For example, it also matters whether cleaning storage or storage space is organised centrally or decentrally.
The customer receives a documentation of the results at the end. On average, 20% of the previous time and cleaning costs are saved.

Holisticness is the key to success
A method is the way a surface (upper surface or floor) is cleaned. If different methods are combined for the cleaning of a room, this is called a cleaning system. There are different systems per room group (sanitary, kitchen, office). The compilation of all systems in the building and their time calculations ultimately become a cleaning concept. Don’t forget: A cleaning concept also includes staff training that teaches how to clean the rooms effectively and efficiently. An entire cleaning concept is therefore greater than the sum of its parts.

Seven types of floors in a new building
In the beginning of 2016, the Glarnersteg Foundation commissioned a report from Wetrok due to the purchase of a new building in Schwanden, Glarus. People with a mental or physical disability should be actively involved in determining their own lives, that is the Glarnersteg vision. Versatile housing and employment options make this possible. The cleaning needs of the rooms are as diverse as the different options. The floor size and type plays a major role. There are seven different types of floors in the new Glarnersteg Foundation building – from wood and wood cement to linoleum flooring. The tailor-made cleaning concept takes into account all floors – even the small floors of the lifts. Most floors are cleaned with a scrubber-drier intermittently, but daily using the dust-binding mopping method. For dust-binding mopping using Masslinn cloths, the rule is: one cloth per room. This prevents germs from being distributed to other rooms. Floors are thoroughly cleaned of dust and loose dirt – without raising dust.

The residents help with the cleaning
Easy, uncomplicated and from one provider – that was the top priority for cleaning for Martin Järmann, Head of Domestic Service & Economics. The challenge: The residents help with the cleaning. Wetrok took this into account: The concept only includes three cleaning agents for routine maintenance cleaning and a few polyvalent methods for everyday use. The Wetrok products are versatile – that’s the way to do it. A Wetrok expert imparts knowledge to the Glarnersteg troupe by using application training.

Manual foam cleaning saves time, money and costs
Martin Järmann is enthusiastic about manual foam cleaning. For him it was important to save time and money – but not at the expense of cleaning quality. The manual foam cleaning has a high level or surface performance per hour – with optically and hygienically perfect results. Not a single drop of cleaning chemicals or water is wasted. In particular, the manual foam cleaning makes sanitary cleaning in the bathrooms noticeably easier. The Glarnersteg employees are completely satisfied with the time-saving cleaning concept and the management can budget for less detergent in the future.
